  • Q. What is your philosophy in childcare?

    At First Step Daycare, we believe that every child has the right to explore and learn to meet their developmental needs and interests. We believe that families have the most significant and influential role in their child’s life there fore our team strives to join as partners to make sure that every child feels loved, nurtured and safe. We aim to help children grow as their own whole individual and promote working together as a group when needed. Care of the children will focus on maintaining and nurturing their emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical needs on a day-to-day basis. With an open-door policy, we encourage families to contribute to their child’s day through parental involvement, input and family traditions being shared.

  • Q. What are your hours of Operations?

    Griesbach: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm Downtown: 6:30 am – 6:00 pm
  • Q. What ages of children do you provide care for?

    At both our locations, we provide care for children from birth – 12 years old.
  • Q. Do you accept subsidy? How do I apply?

    Yes! Parents can apply online through MyAlbertaDigitalID or fill out a paper form and email it in. if parents require help, we are more than happy to walk you through the process.
  • Q. How do I register my child at your center?

    To register your child at our center you must contact the center of choice and book a tour. Once the tour is complete a registration package will be given to you to complete. If your child is set to start within a month of the tour date, a registration fee and first month fee is required. If your child is set to start 2 month or more after your tour date, a registration fee and 50% of your 1st month fee is required. Once the registration forms and deposit are paid your child will be registered in our program.
  • Q. I am pregnant, can I have a tour and register my child for a waitlist?

    Absolutely. It is important to have childcare ready for when you return to work. We do place future infants on waitlists. We will put you on a waitlist and contact you 6 months prior to your child starting.
  • Q. I only need part-time care, can you accommodate?

    Yes, we will never turn away a family needing care for their child. However part-time care is based on availability at our center. We will accommodate families needing part-time care with the knowledge that, if our program is full and there are families on the waitlist for full-time care, they will either need to transition to full time care or forfeit their spot to the full-time family.
  • Q. How much is cost of care at your center and what is covered with this cost?

    Please contact the center of your choice for information regarding prices. Our prices vary by age and the number of children you wish to enroll in our program. Families are happy to hear that their money is well spent on nutritional meals and snack for their children daily. With our onsite kitchen, we can cook everything fresh daily. We also offer teacher led activities such as yoga, Zumba, our KidsCanCook program and bringing in guests for learning opportunities. We also provide parents with access to our camera station and the himama app where they can have a sneak peak of their child playing throughout the day.
  • Q. Do you have a technology policy?

    Yes. Children 0-19 months are not given any screen time at our center. Children 20-36 months are only seeing a screen when we are completing our yoga and Zumba classes for a maximum of 30 minutes, twice a week. Children 3 years and older are also given the same as the age group before with an added movie day once a week for the length of the movie or until children are no longer interested.
